Arenal Volcano National Park

The Arenal Volcano National Park is located in the northern region of Costa Rica with an extension of 12.016 hectares and annual rainfall from 3.500 to 5.000 mm. The main attraction of the National Park is the Volcano with an altitude of 1633 meters. The Volcano is 7 km from La Fortuna and with his picture-perfect cone it is the most impressive Volcano of Costa Rica and a must-see on any tourists itinerary. Before 1968, this Volcano was considered to be just a mountain, it was known only as Arenal Mountain, cover all the way to the top with vegetation, until in September of 1968 it violently erupted spewing lava and destroying the villages of Pueblo Nuevo and Tabacon as well as devastating a 12 square kilometer area where 87 persons were killed -->> more...

Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge

The Caño Negro National Wildlife Refuge is an area of 9.969 hectares of wetlands located in the districts of Los Chiles and Guatuso in the province of Alajuela. It preserves one of the most important wetlands of our national territory, considered internationally as very important, for lodging a great amount of migratory species that are in threat of extinction.
