Join Pure Trek Canyoning as we explore the secrets that lie hidden in the depths of Rainforest Canyon. Since 2001, we have been leading the new multi-sport adventure “Canyoning” by rappelling and hiking in this spectacular rainforest canyon.
Tour description
Pick up and drop off at your hotel (La Fortuna - Arenal area only). A 30 minute 4x4 drive will bring you to the ranch house in the mountains. We will give you a safety talk, put your gear on, and then embark on a short trek to the top of the first waterfall where we start our descent.
There are 5 rappels, 4 waterfalls and 1 canyon rock wall, ranging in height from 55 meters (170ft) to 20 meters (45ft); all are guaranteed to get your blood moving! We have constructed trails that lead you from waterfall to waterfall through the canyon; it’s like being in a national park.
Then a short trek out of the canyon will lead you back to the vehicles and back to our base offices just outside La Fortuna for a delicious “Tipico” lunch in view of the famous Volcano Arenal. We have beautiful changing rooms and facilities for you to enjoy as well. (Lunch served after the 7:00am tour and before the 12:00 noon tour).
We at Pure Trek did the very 1st descent into this canyon and have pioneered this sport in Costa Rica, so get ready for a once in a lifetime Costa Rican Rainforest experience!
All our guides are trained with the American Canyoneering Association as well as Wilderness First Aid and CPR. We are members of the Costa Rican Tourism Board, ICT.
This tour is for anyone in moderate physical condition, we take anyone from 3 years to 80 years and people with experience as well, an adventure for all!

Beautiful exit trail systems, at the top and bottom of each rappel in case of evacuation.
Well maintained trail systems inside the canyon between rappels.
For pick up trucks 4x4, to transport our clients from the main entrance to the Canyon, each car has cover roof, wood bench for clients to seat, and the trucks stay at the mountain during the tour.
Our anchors are cable wraps, like the canyoning tours use, connected to trees very far from the edge of the canyon.
Due to rain and erosion you must anchor this way to maintain the highest level of safety possible for you and your clients.
The Canyon is easy for anyone to rappel down and hike through, but exciting enough for experts!
