The Venado Caves are located an hour's drive north of La Fortuna and alive with marine fossils, thousands of bats, cave fish, crickets and spiders. Venado Caves were formed during the Miocene period, 15 or 20 million years ago and most of the caves, discovered by the guatusos aborigines are formed with Limestone rocks, stalactites, stalagmites and corals, which give this singular place a great scenic form.
This tour starts at 8:00a.m. with destiny to the small town of the Venado. In a comfortable Microbus you will be able to appreciate the panoramic view of the northern area like cattle farms and big plantations of yucca, sugar cane and oranges.
At the entrance of the caves the guide will give you the safety equipment and all the instructions. To continue we will make a 2 hours trek through underground waterfalls, stone-passage ways, where you can observe stalactites and stalagmites and the big formations of coral that take natural forms and were created through time.
A part of these caves are covered by a subterraneous river that follows the way to another area called "the windows" and in order to get there you will have to walk with the water up to your waist making your adventure even more exciting and finally coming out of the caves, taking a shower and then returning to your hotels in La Fortuna.
